Visiting oxford
My hubby found a bargain ticket for to go to Oxford! Megabus. Only £1.00 each way. That is really a cheap way to travel in the UK! A usual trip by coach is about £11! And with free accomodation in Oxford, we cannot complain much. Accomodation in oxford, even the B&Bs can be pretty expensive, let alone the nice hotels.
The catch? We got to take the 5.00 am bus there and come back on the 11:30 pm bus. It seems that you could normaly get the £1.00 ticket at anytime of the day. But since we go on a weekend, too bad!
The weather In Oxford is still pretty cold now. So, no punting and lazing around on the grass.
We have a week to plan the trip. I really hope to see King's College, esp where Harry Porter was filmed. I am not the type who would hanker around "places- seened-in-a-film", but this is Harry Porter, not just another film! I heard that there would be some damage to my pocket to visit this place.
What better way for a university to raise funds than charging all these intruders, ie people who are not smart enough to get there yet still want to visit, and use the $$ to educate the truly intelligent. Argh, what nonsense am I spouting. But hey, it might be worth investigating whether it is economical in the long run to build universities in the most picturesqueus of places. Then, you can charge visitors for your funds.
Oxford university is a great example, so is Cambridge university. Throngs of tourists go there.
I am not spent a full day out yet. Let's hope my cheapo bomber jacket can withstand the cold. It has been snowing and sleeting around the Oxford area the past week or so.
